Munich, Germany

Dear Mom and Dad,

We successfully made it to Munich, Germany. Our plan was pretty small, and once again we didn't get a stamp for this country. I'm like seriously irritated that our passports aren't getting stamped. I feel like once you're stamped in Europe, it's a universal stamp for the entire continent. I'm going to attempt to break down our experiences by the different days as I haven't updated since Barcelona.

Day One:

I'm going to ulload the pictures in the order that we took them, so I don't forget anything. We couldn't check into our hotel until 2, so we went sightseeing for the first part of the day. For the record, our taxi cost $95 to get to our hotel. I about lost it because our flight across the Atlantic was $185. What the heck? Nobody really drives here as everyone uses public transportation, which is what we used for three days. It's cheap but super complex. Like there are four stories, of underground railroads as well as buses and trams. After the initial cost of our taxi, I did what any typical American does. Comfort myself with food. Here is my first weinersnitzel. It was delicious.

After feeding my feelings, we decided to check out the top of Saint Peter's cathedral. Ot was 15 flights of stairs and the most beautiful sights at the top. The first pic is a little blurry. Probably because I was flying up the steps. The views are self explanatory. We couldn't go inside until later as mass was going on.

This was a random lion statue that I felt the need to get a picture next to. It's in honor of the new Lion King, which I can't wait to see when I'm back.

There a clock tower that does a show at noon everyday. Mike took a video of it for his grandma, so I don't have any great pictures to share with you; however, you can see how busy it gets for the show.

We finally made it inside St. Peter's. It was a neat little church.

Of course, another snack is mandatory after all that walking. We shared another German dog and hamburger with German beer.

And the last stop of the day is ice cream. They only have fruit in their ice cream, which is ludicrous to me as cookie dough or cookies belong in it. No fear, I had a stash of oreos for mine.

This concludes our first day. We checked into the hotel and relaxed the remainder of the night. It was a pretty long day as we were up at 4 am to make our early flight.

Day Two:

Our days start off with food. Always. We went to a cute cafe where we shared a ham and cheese pretzel sandwich and a plate from the salad bar. It was fun trying different side dishes with our salad.

Our first stop today was Saint Michael's cathedral. My Michael was excited to see this church as he was named after this saint.

This figure in front of the church is Saint Michael taking down Lucifer.

Here you can kind of see how large the church actually is.

We paid $2 extra to visit the crypt that was filled with about 30 tombs. It was said to see the ones that were little kids. There were kings, queens, princesses, and princes down there. Photos weren't allowed.

 Again, just a beautiful church.

We were also impressed by the stunning organ.

I found a statue of Ellie's relative. Photo was obviously necessary.

Our next stop was the castle of Nyphenburg. It was an especially hot day and when Michael noticed the locals running through a fountain, he couldn't help himself. Please note the average age of the locals going through the fountain is about 5 years old. The average age of the tourist going through the fountain is about 27.

After a 25 minute bus ride, we finally made it to the Nymphenburg castle. The estate was HUGE. Here I am pointing to the made castle, where I should be living.

This was the Queen's room. Also, where I should be living.

This castle highlights all women. There's a room with only portraits of who was viewed as the most beautiful. I couldn't find mine. Maybe I should submit my freshmen year photo.

Anther Queen's bedroom.

 This is a ceiling painting.

This princess was forced to marry a 70 year old to have his child. She refused to have his kid and waited until he died, and then she bargained with parliament to let her keep the castle. And she won. Badass.

Live footage of Michael cheating on me with a statue.

We decided to take the bus to the English Garden to check it out. We couldn't figure out why there were so many kids on the bus in swimsuits, so we did the next logical thing and followed them.

They took us to part of the garden where there were people surfing the Rapids and jumping in and riding the canal.

We quickly went back to our hotel and had to join in on the fun. This was easily the highlight of Munich. It was cold but refreshing and so much fun to do the rapids. You could take the bus back to the start, and nobody seemed to worry about people stealing their things. We must left our clothes and took our things in the dry box. It was underwater attached to Michael's wrist the whole time and stayed completely dry.

Our hotel has candy when you first walk in. Mike with his candy necklace like the kid he is. I also finally remembered to take a quick pic of our room. It's super cute and yo . An sit on the rooftop at night. Super romatic.

We had a Italian date night with pizza and pasta.

That's all for day two. Today, we went to a concentration camp with a five hour tour. It was amazing, jaw dropping, and the most eye opening experience. My blog post wont do justice to the horrors that were. The one we visited was the first on Germany and the on camp that helped train all the guards in other camps. I'll post that experience later as Michael wants his phone back and all the pictures have been taken on his phone. Stay tuned for that post and tomorrow is ROME.

Love you all,

M & M
