From La Paz to Cusco

Dear Mom and Dad,

We were sad to leave La Paz, Bolivia because out of all the big cities, it was our favorite. We could eat a full lunch with soup, main meal, dessert (orange or banana) for $1.15 each. The people were the friendliest and kept their distance from us even when shopping. The only complant I had was everything was Bolivian sized, and I simply am not. I hit my heads whenever walking out of buildings and my knees are still bruised from riding the buses. Too small. Here are two pictures of us departing from La Paz.

If you remember the story of us having to cross Lake Titicaca without any Bolivianos, so we had to sneak in the bus and cross it illegally? Here we are crossing the lake legally. The first picture is the bus being transported across the lake. The second picture is the ferrys we used to cross the lake. The third picture is us crossing the lake. It's a very unflattering picture for we had been in the bus over night and not seen daylight until then. The last picture is of Lake Titicaca. The picture cannot do justice to how big the lake actually is.

Here we are at the border crossing. Charlie is in two places at once. Bolivia and Peru.

The next series of pictures is of our first night out in Cusco. We love it here! The people and the town are absolutely awesome. The streets are small and made from cobblestone. They are well lite, so it feels safe here even when the sun goes down. Pisco sours are featured in the first picture and are very deadly drinks. Two is my limit, and of course you can't beat a good stawberry daquiri. The last of the pictures are of the restaurant that Charlie and I dined at. It was called "Fallen Angels" decorated with a twist of heaven and hell. Super fun and trendy.

The kids at our hostel have a dog (it's a stray) that they feed and water daily. His name is "Oso," which means Bear in English. It is so cute to see them get excited everytime he comes around. Currenly his back leg is hurt so he lays around their yard quite often. Everytime Charlie and I leave the hostel, we check for Oso and report back to the kids how he's doing. They can only go outside when they have their older brother or sister's supervision, so it's up to the guests to report on Oso. Here's Charlie with Oso.

Charlie has found a bar that will be showing the playoff football games, so for the rest of the day we will be drinking a little beer and watching sports. We also have a meeting at 7:00pm to prepare us for our Inca Trail hike tomorrow. The bus will pick us up from our hostel at 5:00am and then off we go. We have greatly downsized our packs, so hopefully it won't be too difficult. The company that we booked with has a safe storage facility to put things we don't need. I need all the help I can get in order to complete this trek. We average walking 7 miles a day. Day two is supposed to be the hardest with the steepest inclines. Wish us luck!

Love always,

Matti Jo and Charlie Dale
